Warning: this blog post discusses the bodily function of urination at great length.
You can definitely file this under “TMI”, but it’s a milestone that’s worth celebrating: the past couple months mark the first period of my life since I was a teenager where I can make it all the way through the night without having to get up to pee.
When you first have a kidney transplant, you pee almost constantly through the night. You find yourself waking up every every hour or two bursting at the seams and rushing to relieve yourself (or at least I did).
Over time, things start to get more normal, and everything settles down a bit. But even a year into it, by three or four a.m., I would either be waking up with the urge to go pee, or even worse, start dreaming that I was peeing (danger!).
Now, I sleep soundly through the night, and start my day off the way so many others around the world do. I know that they say things get worse as you age, and that almost everyone starts needing to get up and pee in the middle of the night, but for me it’s the opposite. I’m loving my thirties!
